Preparations for the bullet train in India have been going on for a long time. Efforts are in full swing to make the first 50-km section between Surat-Bilimora in Gujarat available by 2027. The entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad line will be completed by 2029, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced on Saturday (September 27). Once the bullet train is available, the journey from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will take just 2 hours and 7 minutes.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav visited Surat station. The Union Minister inspected the track construction work there. Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the project is progressing very well. The Surat-Bilimora section will be operational in 2027, the Thane-Ahmedabad section in 2028. The entire line will be operational by 2029, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said. The main line is designed to operate at a speed of 320 km per hour. However, the loop line will operate at a speed of 80 km per hour. The Minister said that modern technologies are being used for safety such as vibration reduction systems, protection against strong winds and earthquakes.
The main construction of Surat station has been completed. Track linking, finishing and utility works are underway. The first turnout where the tracks meet and separate has been set up with new technologies like roller bearings and U composite sleepers. Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the project will connect the economies of the cities along the corridor and boost regional development like the high-speed rail project in Japan. He said that four more bullet train corridors have been planned as outlined in the BJP manifesto.

The bullet train station in Surat is very cool and comfortable for passengers. It has various facilities like waiting lounge, nursery, restrooms, retail shops etc. Elevators and escalators make it easy for everyone to reach. Special arrangements have been made for the elderly, the disabled and families with small children. These include special signs, information kiosks, and a public announcement system using state-of-the-art technology.
