Freshers are looking forward to opportunities in e-commerce and technology startups. Companies are keen to hire more freshers in the second half of this year (July-December). In the ‘Career Outlook Report’ survey conducted by Team Lease EdTech, 88 percent of companies in e-commerce and tech startups expressed their intention to hire. This is followed by 87 percent in the retail sector and 82 percent in the manufacturing sector.

Team Lease said this indicates a strong demand for young professionals. The rapid growth in these e-commerce and technology sectors is creating excellent opportunities for freshers, the report said. The rise in degree apprenticeship programs is indicative of the demand for direct, skill-based learning pathways, said Shantanu Rooz, founder and CEO, Team Lease EdTech. The data was released by Team Lease EdTech after surveying 1,065 companies across various sectors between May and July.

However, while the hiring intention of freshers remains strong among companies, it has declined slightly compared to the second half of the previous year. It was 74 percent in the second half of 2024, and 70 percent in the second half of this year. The report cited the fact that companies are focusing on reorganizing human resources with the advent of AI, international trade uncertainties, and retaining experienced professionals in key departments.

Opportunities in high growth sectors

The Team Lease EdTech report said that freshers are in strong demand in high-growth sectors. It revealed that there is a demand for degree apprenticeships at 37 percent in manufacturing, 29 percent in engineering and infrastructure, and 18 percent in IT. 37 percent of companies in Bengaluru, 30 percent in Chennai, and 26 percent in Pune are positive about hiring apprenticeships. It is noteworthy that small companies are more interested in hiring freshers compared to large companies.
