ICC Women’s ODI WC 2025 Team India, which reached the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup-2025, suffered a major setback. Opening batsman Pratika Rawal, who was in super form, was ruled out of the team due to injury. In this context, a key change has taken place in the Indian team.
The Under-19 World Cup-winning captain has replaced Pratika Rawal in the team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this on Monday. So who is the player?
Right ankle injury
India secured a semi-final berth by winning a crucial match against New Zealand on home soil. They were also expected to show their mettle in their final league match against Bangladesh. However, the match, which was to be played in Navi Mumbai, was abandoned due to rain.
In this match, which was shortened to 27 overs due to rain, the Bangladesh women’s team scored 119 runs for the loss of nine wickets. However, while fielding in this match on Sunday, Pratika Rawal injured her right ankle. She left the field, writhing in pain. She did not come to bat after that.
Amanjot Kaur to partner Mandhana?
Amanjot Kaur (15 not out) came in as the opening partner for Smriti Mandhana (34 not out) in place of Pratika Rawal. However, play was stopped after 8.4 overs due to heavy rain. By then, Harman Sena had scored 57 runs without losing a wicket.
Meanwhile, the ICC Women’s World Cup has reached its final stage. The first semi-final match will be held in Guwahati on October 29. England and South Africa will compete in this. On the other hand.. the second semi-final between India and Australia (October 30) will be held in Navi Mumbai..
Lady Sehwag has arrived.
However, India’s loss of in-form batter Pratika ahead of the crucial semi-final against a strong Australian team is a matter of concern. She has been replaced by Shafali Verma, known as ‘Lady Sehwag’.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has taken permission from the Event Technical Committee as per the rules in the wake of the team change in the semi-final match. Shafali Verma, who had emerged as the Indian team’s opener for a while, has since struggled with lack of form.
Scored 527 runs..
At the same time, the arrival of Pratika Rawal and her consistent performance led to Shafali losing her place in the team. As a result, she could not make it to the ODI World Cup tournament. Meanwhile, Shafali last played an ODI for India in October 2024.
Shafali performed well in domestic ODI cricket for Haryana last year. She scored 527 runs at an average of 75.28. Meanwhile.. Pratika Rawal, who made her debut for Team India in December 2024.. reached the 1000-run mark in ODIs in just 23 innings.
Thus, she became the fastest cricketer to score 1000 runs in women’s ODIs. It is noteworthy that Pratika, along with Mandhana, created a record by adding 1799 runs for the opening wicket in 23 innings. However, there is no doubt that Pratika’s absence will be clearly visible in the fight against the champion team, the Aussies. It is known that Shafali gave India the Under-19 World Cup-2023 as a captain.
