PMMVY Scheme : There is good news from the central government for pregnant women and mothers who have recently given birth to a child. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), financial assistance is being provided directly to the bank or post office account of the mothers. Pregnant women and mothers who have recently given birth to a child will get financial assistance from the central government under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. Special registration campaign till August 15.

This assistance will be used to cover the cost of nutrition, medicines and hospital visits to keep the mother and child healthy.

At the time of the birth of the first child, a total of ₹5,000 will be given in three installments — ₹1,000 on registration during pregnancy, ₹2,000 after at least one health check-up and another ₹2,000 after the child is vaccinated. ₹6,000 will be given if the child is a girl in the second delivery.

The government has launched a special registration campaign till August 15, 2025. During this period, Anganwadi and ASHA workers are going door to door providing information about the scheme and enrolling eligible women immediately. The money can be used by mothers for their own health or for nutrition, medicines and hospital expenses for their child.

Eligibility:
To apply for this scheme, the mother’s age should be at least 19 years. The annual income of the family should be less than ₹8 lakh. BPL card, MNREGA card, e-Shram card, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi beneficiaries are eligible. This scheme is not applicable to government employees.

How to Apply:
Contact your nearest Anganwadi Centre or ASHA worker. Submit Aadhaar card, pregnancy certificate or child’s birth certificate (for the second phase) and bank or post office account details. Over 4.05 crore mothers across the country have benefited from this scheme till July 31, 2025. The government has deposited over ₹19,028 crore directly into bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

1. Overview

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit scheme launched by the Government of India in 2017 under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
It aims to support pregnant women and lactating mothers by providing them with financial assistance so they can take care of their health and nutrition during pregnancy and after childbirth.

2. Key Objectives

Reduce the need for mothers to work during the last months of pregnancy.
Reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.
Encourage women to take proper rest before and after delivery.
Improve nutrition for mother and child.

3. Benefits Provided

  • Cash incentive of ₹5,000 given in three installments:
    1. First Installment – ₹1,000 after early registration of pregnancy at the Anganwadi centre or approved health facility.
    2. Second Installment – ₹2,000 after completing at least one antenatal check-up.
    3. Third Installment – ₹2,000 after childbirth registration and the first cycle of vaccinations for the child.
  • This is in addition to the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) benefit of ₹1,000 for institutional delivery, making the total possible support ₹6,000.

4. Eligibility

  • Pregnant women and lactating mothers for their first living child.
  • Age: 19 years or above at the time of pregnancy.
  • Exclusions: Women in regular government jobs or receiving similar maternity benefits from other schemes.

5. How to Apply

  1. Visit the nearest Anganwadi Centre or approved health facility.
  2. Fill out the PMMVY application form with the required documents:
    • Aadhaar card
    • Bank account details
    • Mother and Child Protection (MCP) card
    • Address proof
  3. Submit the form in three stages to claim each installment.

6. Implementation

  • Implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in collaboration with state governments and UT administrations.
  • Disbursement is done directly to the beneficiary’s bank account via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

7. Recent Updates

  • As per latest announcements, the government is working on PMMVY 2.0 to:
    • Extend benefits for second children, if the second child is a girl.
    • Simplify registration through PMMVY software and mobile app.
    • Increase awareness so more women can access the scheme.
