Actor Vijay announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the families of the victims, while CM Stalin visited them and assured government assistance.
The stampede at the Karur rally left 39 people dead, including 10 children. The Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) party has officially said that it will approach the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court seeking a CBI probe into the incident. The party alleged that the tragedy was not an accident but the result of a conspiracy. It pointed out the stone-pelting by the crowd and the police lathi-charge on the stage. Meanwhile, Justice N Senthilkumar will hear an urgent petition filed seeking a ban on actor Vijay TVK from holding any public meetings until the investigation into the Karur stampede is completed.

Eyewitnesses described how panic had spread before Vijay’s arrival due to power cuts, narrow approach roads and a sudden surge in crowds. Families were separated in the chaos, women and children found it difficult to breathe. Postmortem reports confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxiation. The next morning, at the venue, the intensity of the stampede was seen in the form of shoes, sandals, torn clothes and broken poles.
In a message to his supporters on Sunday, Vijay said his “heart is broken.” He announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for the injured. “This is an irreparable loss. As a member of your family, I stand with you in this grief,” Vijay said. He said he was praying for the recovery of those undergoing treatment. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin rushed to Karur, visited the victims in the hospital and assured the government of all possible assistance. He described the deaths as “unbearable”. He said that all possible medical care was being provided.
