After a sudden technical glitch affecting Samsung’s smart TVs around the world, services have been restored to more customers, but the root cause of the major disruption has yet to be revealed.

Last Thursday, thousands of users from different parts of the country complained on social media, Reddit, and Samsung’s official forums that popular apps like YouTube, Apple TV, and Hulu were not working on their Smart TVs.

According to the affected users, the apps were available in the menu, but when they tried to open them, they were getting various error messages, such as the server is under repair, the internet is disconnected or there is a problem with authentication.

According to several users, Netflix has not been affected by these issues, possibly because Netflix uses its own content delivery network (CDN), which makes it less vulnerable to other platforms.

No official statement has yet been released on the disruption from Samsung’s side, and one user claimed that the company’s customer support representative told them that Samsung is aware of a possible outage in its Smart TV services, and that engineers are working on a solution to the problem.

Apps and features of Samsung TV are working normally in most places, but users are waiting for a detailed explanation of this global disruption from the company.

August 1, 2025, Samsung has fully restored its Smart TV services globally, resolving the outage that impacted app access across its Smart Hub platform.

What happened?

On August 1, millions of Samsung TV owners worldwide experienced an outage: users saw apps (e.g. YouTube, Hulu, Prime Video) remain visible but fail to launch, displaying errors like “server under maintenance,” certificate issues, or failed Terms & Conditions screens. Netflix remained functional throughout, likely because it uses its own server infrastructure
